Referral Triage

Referral & Triage Process

Before joining the Clinic of the Cracked Cup, all new patients are assessed through a referral-based triage process. This allows our psychiatrist to understand your needs, prioritise care for health professionals, and determine whether the clinic is the right fit for you. After triage, your referral may be accepted or, in some cases, declined if the psychiatrist feels your needs would be better supported elsewhere. If accepted, you will be added to our waiting list and contacted when an appointment becomes available.

What We Review During Triage

Referral Details

Your referral provides essential information about why you’re seeking support and what type of care has been requested. This helps the psychiatrist assess suitability. Please ensure your referral is addressed correctly.

Background Information

We may ask for some brief background details to help clarify your current situation, mental health history, and any relevant medical information. This supports an informed triage decision.

Health Professional Priority

We prioritise care for health professionals. If you work in healthcare, you’ll have the option to indicate your role during the triage process.

What Happens After Triage?

Acceptance or Decline of Referral

Once your referral has been reviewed, the psychiatrist may accept or decline it. Referrals may be declined if your concerns fall outside the psychiatrist’s scope or require a different type of service. If declined, we will let you know and may offer guidance on alternative pathways.

Placement on the Waiting List

If accepted, you will be added to the waiting list. Your placement is based on urgency, clinical need, and priority categories.

Appointment Offer

When a suitable appointment becomes available, we will contact you with the next offered time.

Next Steps

Once your appointment is confirmed, we will send an intake form for you to complete before your first session. This includes general information, optional AI consent, and brief psychometric questionnaires to help guide your care.

Before You Get Started

How to Submit Your Referral

You can upload your referral through our enquiry form or send it by email. Your GP or referrer can also send it directly to us.

What to Expect

After triage, we will inform you of the outcome and, if accepted, confirm your placement on the waiting list.
